West Papua are the Highest Fishery Producers
Some of the fishery commodities produced from these three regencies have high economic values, such as snapper, grouper, and Napoleon which have great export opportunities due to high demand in markets overseas.
In relation, the West Papua Provincial Government has defined a Spatial Plan that includes a Provincial Protected Area plan and a development direction of a cultivation area that has national strategic value.
The determination of a Provincial Strategic Area has resulted in areas with prioritized spatial planning because it hasa very important influence on a nationals cope.
THE VALUE OF FISHERY PRODUCTION IN THREE REGENCIES / CITIES IN WEST PAPUA PROVINCE,NAMELY SORONG, FAKFAK,AND MANOKWARI, ARE THE HIGHEST FISHERY PRODUCTION AREAS IN WEST PAPUA PROVINCE WITH RESPECTIVE PRODUCTION VALUES OF 36,786.4 TONS (SORONG CITY), 24,571. 2 TONS(FAK FAK REGENCY)AND 11,987.2 TONS (MANOKWARI REGENCY).
West Papua’s spatial pattern arrangement is divided into a Cultivation Area, Protected Area, and Production Forest Area. The Cultivation Area is designated as a certain land that becomes a part of human activities to meet their needs, including land and marine fishery cultivation areas.
The province of West Papua has great marine resources, but due to the physical nature of its habitat, these marine resources are not fully utilized by the population. Economic powers from out side the region, which are superior in terms of technology and production organization,have the opportunity for utilization infiltration.
However, West Papuans have at least two zones where they have advantage access, both physically and legally, in the territorial waters of Zone I (less than 6 miles) and in interface waters (brackish).In managing its natural resources (SDA), West Papua province uses sustainable principles with policy targets in the utilization of renewable natural resources, such as forests, agriculture,and fisheries, which are managed and utilized rationally, optimally, efficiently, and responsibly by utilizing all functions and benefits in a balanced manner.
The next effort is to increase and strengthen the competence of human resources in the field of fisheries and marine resources supported by the development of science and technology by optimizing the utilization of marine.
