Socio-Economic Progress From Tourism Business

Currently, tourism has become one of the largest economic sectors and has the fastest growth rate in the world. The opening of new tourist destinations and investment in tourism has transformed tourism as one of the main drivers of the socio-economic progress of a country through the acceptance of foreign exchange, job creation and business opportunity, and infrastructure development.

The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) estimates the number of international tourists will reach 1.8 billion by 2030 with an annual growth rate of 3.3 percent.

There are currently several new tourist destinations in various countries around the world, and the Asia Pacific region is estimated to have the highest growth compared to other regions.

The tourism business management is not easy because it involvesal most all sectors of the economy, whether it is a tourism characteristic industry, such as hotels and restaurants, and industries that are not directly related to the tourism industry, but some of the demand is from tourism connected industries..

The number of related industries and the impact of tourism activities are over whelming, but the Indonesian government has been committed to continue promoting tourism business plan so that it can compete with other countries.

Socio-Economic Progress From Tourism Business

Through the promotion and improvement of services, supported by the improvement of the security situation, and the global economic crisis recovery experienced by many European countries, the number of foreign tourist arrivals (tourists) to Indonesia shows a significant increase each year.

In 2016, the number of foreign tourists visiting Indonesia reached 10.41 million, up by 10.29% over the previous year. Another factor that is also very dominant on Indonesia’s tourism industry is the movement of local tourists (wisnus) which plays a major role in creating an economic impact. Therefore, with the slogan “Enchantment of Indonesia”, the government is more intense in promoting tourism and more and more Indonesians are expected in knowing more about their own country.

With the existence of travel activities, domestic tourist consumption is expected to be created in the country, which is a driving factor for the development of tourism facilities and infrastructure that will eventually encourage the development of Tourism Business in particular, and the economy in general.

The economic value of the sale of tourism services sometimes cannot be measured significantly in nominal terms. However, the economic value of tourism activities is not only enjoyed by a particular sector, but also by various sectors. With the increasing number of tourist consumption, economic impact will be enjoyed and more sectors will be linked.

Based on Law Number 10 of 2009, tourism business covers thirteen main types, namely: tourist attraction, tourism area, tour transportation service, travel service, food and beverage service, accommodation, entertainment and recreation, organizing meetings , incentive trips, conferences and exhibitions, tourism information services, tourism consulting services, aquatic tours, and spas.
